Study in Germany from Pakistan

Checked October 9, 2026 against official sources

Germany attracts many Pakistani students because most state universities charge no tuition fees for bachelor's and most master's programmes, and its engineering, computer science and natural science faculties have a strong reputation. Many international programmes are taught in English, so German is not always required for admission. Graduates can stay on to look for a job in a large economy that needs skilled workers.

Frequently asked questions

Is studying in Germany free for Pakistani students?

According to the DAAD, there are generally no tuition fees for bachelor's or most master's courses at state universities. Every student pays a semester contribution for student services. Baden-Württemberg charges non-EU students EUR 1,500 per semester and Bavaria may also charge fees, so check the university's page.

How much money do I need in a blocked account?

Most applicants must prove they have EUR 11,904 available for one year, the amount required since 1 January 2025. This is normally deposited into a blocked account, from which a fixed monthly amount is released after arrival. Setting up the account costs a one-time fee.

Can I study in Germany without knowing German?

Yes, for many programmes. German is not a prerequisite for international degree programmes or certain postgraduate courses. If a course is taught in German, you must pass TestDaF or DSH. Check the language requirement on each university's programme page.

How many hours can I work as a student in Germany?

Students from outside the EU may work 140 full days or 280 half days per year. Alternatively, student employees may work up to 20 hours per week. Breaking these rules can lead to expulsion, so follow them carefully.

Can I stay in Germany after my degree?

Yes. Non-EU graduates of German universities can stay for up to 18 months after completing their degree to look for employment. The DAAD advises starting your job search in your final semester.
