German blocked account 2026: how much and how to open it from Pakistan

جرمنی بلاکڈ اکاؤنٹ (اشپیر کونٹو) — پاکستانی طلبہ کے لیے مکمل رہنمائی

A blocked account (Sperrkonto) is how most Pakistani students prove to the German Embassy that they can pay their living costs. You put one year's money in it before your visa appointment, and it is paid back to you month by month after you arrive.

Student visa, 12 months
€11,904
€992 a month · about Rs 3,676,000
Opportunity Card
€13,092
€1,091 a month

Rupee amounts at today's reference rate of Rs 308.83 per euro. Your bank's rate for sending euros will be a little higher.

Open your blocked account online

Fintiba, a provider accepted by German missions, opens the account online in minutes and issues the blocking confirmation for your visa. You can add the health insurance for your visa in the same step.

Who needs a blocked account?

  • Students going to Germany for a bachelor's, master's, PhD or a preparatory course (Studienkolleg), unless a scholarship or a German sponsor's formal commitment (Verpflichtungserklärung) covers your costs.
  • Language course students and apprentices, and Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte) applicants, at the higher amount.
  • Some visas need 10% more than the standard amount, and the embassy can ask for a longer period (for example 15 months). Check your visa checklist.

If you have a full scholarship (for example DAAD), the scholarship letter usually replaces the blocked account. See scholarships in Germany.

How to open it with Fintiba, step by step

  1. Sign up online with your passport details and your study plan in Germany. Most accounts are ready within minutes, and no bank visit is needed.
  2. Verify your identity online as Fintiba asks.
  3. Send the money from Pakistan by international bank transfer in euros to the account details Fintiba shows. Your bank will usually ask for your university admission letter for an education remittance; if a parent sends it, use their account and keep the receipt.
  4. Download the blocking confirmation (Sperrbestätigung) once the money arrives, and take it to your visa appointment with your other documents.
  5. Add health insurance: travel insurance for the visa, then student insurance after you enrol.
  6. After you arrive, open a German current account and link it. The blocked money is then paid out every month (€992 for a student).

Fintiba shows its current account fees during sign-up. The DAAD says blocked accounts generally cost €70 to €150 to set up. Fintiba says your money is protected by the German deposit guarantee.

Health insurance for your German student visa

  • Before you enrol: travel health insurance that covers the visa period until your semester starts.
  • After you enrol: public student insurance (for example BARMER) or, where allowed, private insurance (for example MAWISTA, from €95 a month for people up to 40, according to Fintiba).
  • Your university needs proof of health insurance to enrol you.

Documents for the German student visa (with the blocked account)

  • Valid passport and the visa application form
  • University admission letter (Zulassungsbescheid) or conditional admission
  • Blocking confirmation from your blocked account provider
  • Health insurance confirmation
  • Degrees and transcripts (HEC attested where required) and language certificates (IELTS or German)

Book the appointment early: Islamabad and Karachi often have long waits. See the full Germany study guide and the HEC attestation guides.

Questions

How much money is needed in a German blocked account in 2026?

For a student visa you must block €11,904 for 12 months, which is €992 a month, about Rs 3,676,000 at today's rate. The Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte) needs €13,092 (€1,091 a month).

Is Fintiba accepted by the German Embassy in Islamabad?

Fintiba says its blocked account is accepted by all German missions, and the blocking confirmation it issues is the document you take to your visa appointment.

How do I send the money from Pakistan?

By international bank transfer (in euros) from your or your sponsor's bank account to the blocked account details Fintiba gives you. Pakistani banks process education remittances against your university admission letter, so ask your bank which documents it needs before you transfer.

When can I use the money?

Only after you arrive in Germany. Once you open a German current account, the blocked amount is paid out month by month (€992 a month for a student).

What if my visa is refused?

You can ask for the money back by showing the refusal letter. Check Fintiba's refund terms for any fees that are kept.

Do I also need health insurance?

Yes. You need travel health insurance for the visa and until you enrol, and then student health insurance (public, such as BARMER, or private, such as MAWISTA). Fintiba offers both with the blocked account.

Amounts from the DAAD and the provider's blocked account page, checked 30 October 2026. The German Embassy's checklist for your visa type is final. Dareecha is not a government website.
