Study in Spain from Pakistan

Checked October 9, 2026 against official sources

Spain draws Pakistani students with relatively low public-university fees, a warm climate, and a strong international reputation, especially as Europe's favourite Erasmus+ destination. Hundreds of degrees are taught fully or partly in English, and learning Spanish, one of the world's most spoken languages, adds career value. New immigration rules let students work part-time, and graduates can stay for up to two years to find a job or start a business.

Frequently asked questions

How much money do I need to show for a Spanish student visa?

Spain's immigration rules require funds equal to 100% of the IPREM (Spain's public income index) for each month of your stay, unless your accommodation is already paid for the whole stay. Family members need 75% of the IPREM for the first person and 50% for each additional person. Check the current IPREM amount with the Spanish embassy.

Can I work while studying in Spain?

Yes. Under the immigration regulation in force since 2025, higher-education students are automatically allowed to work, employed or self-employed, as long as it is compatible with their studies. Work is limited to 30 hours per week, and exceeding this can end your permit.

Can I stay in Spain after my studies?

Yes. Graduates with at least a bachelor's-level degree can apply for a residence permit to look for work or start a business for up to 24 months, which cannot be extended. You apply online from 60 days before to 90 days after your student permit expires, with health insurance and enough funds.

Can my family join me in Spain?

Yes, family members can apply to accompany you. They stay for the same period as you, need health insurance and must be covered by your funds. However, family members of students are not allowed to work while they hold this permit.

Can I study in Spain in English?

Yes. Spanish universities offer more than 800 degrees taught fully or partly in English. SEPIE runs search tools for English-taught bachelor's and master's programmes. Many programmes are still taught in Spanish, so check the language of instruction for your course.
