DAAD Development-Related Postgraduate Courses (EPOS)

EPOS funds professionals from developing and newly industrialised countries, including Pakistan, to take selected development-related master's (and some PhD) courses in Germany. You apply directly to the course.

Deadline: Deadlines depend on the chosen course and usually fall between July and October of the year before the course starts.

What it covers

  • Monthly payment of €992 for graduates (master's level)
  • Monthly payment of €1,400 for doctoral candidates (from February 2026)
  • Health, accident and personal liability insurance contributions
  • Travel allowance (unless covered by another source)
  • Monthly rent subsidy and family allowance, under certain circumstances

Who can apply

  • Citizen of an eligible developing country (Pakistan is listed).
  • A bachelor's degree (usually four years) in a relevant subject. Degrees should normally be no more than six years old.
  • At least two years of professional experience after your first degree, at the time of application.
  • Language: for English-taught courses, proof as required by the course (IELTS/TOEFL). For German-taught courses, at least B1 German when applying and DSH 2 or TestDaF 4 before the course starts.
  • Evidence that your work relates to development.

How to apply

  1. Download the current EPOS brochure and choose up to the allowed number of courses.
  2. Check each course's own deadline (they differ).
  3. Send the EPOS application directly to the course through its website, not to DAAD.
  4. The course and DAAD shortlist and select scholarship holders.
  5. Keep copies of everything you send.
