Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung International Scholarship Program

KAS funds international students and PhD candidates, mainly from non-EU countries, at German universities. Master's scholars get up to €992 a month and PhD candidates up to €1,400, plus seminars and mentoring. Good German (B2) and social or political engagement are essential.

What it covers

  • Up to €992 per month for Bachelor's/Master's/postgraduate study (usually 2 years)
  • Up to €1,400 per month for doctoral candidates (usually 3 years)
  • Health insurance subsidy up to €120 per month
  • Family and child allowances; partial tuition refund up to €750 per semester in exceptional cases

Who can apply

The programme is for international students from non-EU countries, so Pakistani nationals can apply.

  • German at least B2 (e.g. Goethe-Institut certificate) by the start of studies.
  • Master's applicants must plan a four-semester MA at a German university or university of applied sciences.
  • Bachelor's applicants must have completed two semesters in Germany.
  • PhD applicants must be fully admitted to a German doctoral programme.
  • You show good to excellent grades, volunteer work and commitment to democracy and human rights.

Three-semester programmes and postdocs are not funded.

How to apply

  1. Check you meet all mandatory requirements, especially German B2.
  2. If you already live in Germany, apply through the KAS Campus Portal by 15 July (12:00 noon CET).
  3. If you live in your home region, apply via a participating KAS office abroad (the offices change each year).
  4. Upload all documents listed in the KAS application notes (in German).
  5. Attend the selection interview if invited.
