Yale admits all applicants, including international students, without regard to their ability to pay, and meets 100% of every admitted family's demonstrated need. It is one of the few US universities to be need-blind for international applicants.

What it covers

  • Need-based Yale Scholarship meeting 100% of demonstrated need (no loans required)
  • For families earning under USD 100,000 with typical assets: often a 'zero parent share' covering tuition, fees, housing, food and travel
  • Allowances for housing, meals and two round trips to campus each year for international students
  • Hospitalization insurance and a USD 2,000 start-up grant in the first year for qualifying students

Who can apply

  • Open to students of every nationality. Admission is need-blind for international applicants and aid is purely need-based (no merit scholarships).
  • You must be admitted to Yale College as a first-year or transfer student.
  • International applicants meet the same requirements as US students, including SAT or ACT scores.
  • If you did not have at least two years of secondary education in English, you need an English proficiency test.
  • Aid offers take into account the difference between the US economy and your home country's. International students don't need to reapply for aid each year.

How to apply

  1. Apply to Yale College through the Common App, Coalition App or QuestBridge, and say you want need-based financial aid.
  2. Yale Undergraduate Financial Aid contacts you with your checklist of required documents.
  3. Submit the documents (including the CSS Profile, code 3987, and submissions via IDOC) by the priority deadline.
  4. Your aid offer is released with your admission decision. Yale does not accept the ISFAA form instead.
