AAUW International Fellowships

AAUW International Fellowships support women who are not US citizens or permanent residents doing full-time STEM graduate study in the United States. They are for women with strong academics who have empowered other women and girls and intend to serve their home communities.

Deadline: Closed for 2027-28; the window ran 17 August to 17 September 2026 (5:00pm ET). The next window will probably open in mid-August 2027.

What it covers

  • Stipend of USD 20,000 (Master's)
  • Stipend of USD 25,000 (doctorate)
  • Paid in two instalments

Who can apply

  • You must identify as a woman and be a non-US citizen who does not hold, and has not applied for, US permanent residency.
  • You must be admitted or enrolled in your first Master's or an academic/professional doctorate in a STEM field (per the DHS STEM list).
  • The programme must be full-time at a US institution accredited by the Department of Education, starting by 15 September and finishing on or after 30 April of the following year.
  • You need a degree equivalent to a US bachelor's with a CGPA of at least 3.5/4.0 in your highest degree.
  • Past AAUW fellowship recipients are ineligible.

How to apply

  1. Get admitted to a full-time STEM Master's or doctorate in the US.
  2. Create an account on the AAUW Fellowships and Grants Application Portal once the window opens (mid-August).
  3. Complete the narrative application, following AAUW's Application Instructions.
  4. Register two recommenders early and upload degree certificates, transcripts and CGPA proof.
  5. Submit by the mid-September deadline; awards are announced in March.
