PhD Scholarships under US-Pakistan Knowledge Corridor

This scheme sends outstanding Pakistani scholars for PhDs at top QS-ranked US universities, mainly to build faculty for Pakistani universities. Category I covers top-50 universities with full tuition, and Category II covers universities ranked 51-300 with a tuition cap.

Deadline: HEC takes applications by session. Past deadlines were 20 July 2025 (Fall 2025), 15 November 2025 (Spring/Summer 2026) and 30 April 2026 (Fall 2026). HEC's page says scholarships are open, but it does not show a new closing date.

What it covers

  • Category I (QS 1-50): full tuition
  • Category II (QS 51-300): tuition up to USD 12,000 per year
  • Annual stipend USD 19,200
  • Annual health insurance USD 2,000 (or actual, if lower)
  • Return airfare PKR 250,000
  • Funding for a maximum of 5 years

Who can apply

  • Pakistani/AJK national with at least a 4-year bachelor's degree (16 years of education).
  • No 2nd or 3rd division anywhere in the academic career.
  • Maximum age on the closing date: 40 for regular government employees, public university and government college faculty, and R&D researchers; 35 for others.
  • Not holding any other scholarship, and not already holding a PhD.
  • Category I: admission at a top-50 QS-ranked US university.
  • Category II: admission at a US university ranked 51-300 overall (or 51-100 by subject).
  • For both categories: GRE General of 300 or more, or a HAT score of 60% or more. TOEFL/IELTS is not an HEC requirement.

How to apply

  1. Secure PhD admission (with a tuition waiver letter where applicable) at an eligible QS-ranked US university.
  2. Register at the HEC scholarship portal using your CNIC and complete your profile.
  3. Under 'Scholarships and Grants', open the 'US-PAK Knowledge Corridor Application' and submit it.
  4. Email scanned copies of the application and attested documents to pmu@hec.gov.pk.
  5. Shortlisted candidates later submit HEC-attested documents and sign the bond to return and serve in Pakistan.

  • Admission letter and tuition waiver letter
  • Academic documents attested by a Grade-17+ gazetted officer
  • Copy of CNIC, domicile and passport
  • GRE General or HAT score
  • Contact details of US graduate school and advisor
  • Employment/experience certificate (where required)
  • Deed of agreement, guarantee, surety bond and declaration of assets (after selection)
