METU Tuition Discount and Exemption for International Students

METU gives merit-based tuition discounts (50%) or full exemptions (100%) to up to 10% of its international students, without an application. New students are judged on the exams and diplomas they submitted for admission, and awards are renewed each year based on GPA.

Deadline: No application needed for tuition discounts. Need-based aid applications are taken in September-October (fall) and February-March (spring).

What it covers

Who can apply

Open to international students, meaning non-Turkish and non-TRNC nationals, so Pakistanis qualify.

  • Up to 10% of international students registered at the Ankara campus can receive a discount or exemption.
  • The main criterion is academic success; new students are judged on exam results and diplomas from their application.
  • To continue: stay within the normal programme length, with a CGPA of 3.00 (discount) or 3.50 (exemption).
  • Excluded: students funded by other institutions, international joint degree students and, for graduate study, evening programmes and conditional admits in their first semester.

How to apply

  1. Apply for admission to METU as an international student (undergraduate or graduate).
  2. No separate application is needed; students are assessed each year.
  3. Awardees are informed by email.
  4. For extra need-based help (meal, dormitory or cash aid), submit a petition with evidence in September-October or February-March.
  5. Keep a CGPA of 3.00 or 3.50 to stay eligible in later years.
