Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC)

The Chinese Government Scholarship funds international students for bachelor's, master's, doctoral and non-degree (scholar) study in China. Pakistanis can apply through the bilateral route via their home dispatching authority, or directly to designated Chinese universities.

Deadline: Deadlines depend on the route: universities and dispatching authorities usually take applications between January and April for September entry.

What it covers

  • Tuition fees
  • Free university dormitory or accommodation subsidy
  • Comprehensive medical insurance
  • Monthly stipend: CNY 2,500 (undergraduate), CNY 3,000 (master's/general scholar), CNY 3,500 (doctoral/senior scholar)

Who can apply

  • A non-Chinese citizen in good physical and mental health.
  • Bachelor's: high school diploma, under 25.
  • Master's: bachelor's degree, under 35.
  • PhD: master's degree, under 40.
  • General scholar: under 45. Senior scholar: master's or associate professor, under 50.
  • Language: HSK 3 or 4 for Chinese-taught programmes; otherwise the university's English requirement.

For Pakistani applicants: there are two main routes. The bilateral programme goes through the dispatching authority in Pakistan. The Chinese university programme means applying directly to a designated university. Always check the specific route's deadline and any extra requirements from the university or dispatching authority.

How to apply

  1. Choose a designated Chinese university and programme.
  2. Get pre-admission or an invitation letter from the university.
  3. Apply through a receiving agency: the dispatching authority in Pakistan (bilateral route) or the Chinese university (university route).
  4. Fill in the online CSC application form on the Chinese Government Scholarship system.
  5. The agency nominates candidates. CSC reviews them and announces results.
