Commonwealth Master's Scholarships

These are fully funded one-year master's awards at UK universities for students from lower-income Commonwealth countries. Pakistani candidates must be nominated by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and apply on both the CSC and HEC portals.

What it covers

  • Approved tuition fees
  • Return airfare between Pakistan and the UK
  • Stipend of £1,712 per month (£2,000 per month in the London metropolitan area)
  • Study travel grant
  • Child allowance for widowed, divorced or single-parent scholars

Who can apply

CSC and HEC rules for Pakistani applicants:

  • Pakistani/AJ&K national and permanent resident. Dual nationals are not eligible (HEC).
  • By September 2027, hold at least an upper second-class (2:1) first degree, or a lower second-class degree plus a relevant master's (CSC). HEC asks for a first division in a 16-year bachelor's degree and no second or third division in your latest degree.
  • At least 60/100 in the HEC HAT test (taken on or after 25 October 2024).
  • You must not already have studied at master's level at a UK institution.
  • You must be unable to afford UK study without the scholarship and be able to start in September 2027.
  • HEC sets no upper age limit.

How to apply

  1. Pick an eligible master's course at a UK university.
  2. Apply on the CSC Central portal.
  3. Also apply on the HEC scholarship portal. HEC is Pakistan's nominating agency, and the CSC does not accept direct applications.
  4. Register for and pass the HAT test if you do not already have a valid score.
  5. Submit both applications by 20 October 2026 (4:00 PM PST for HEC; 16:00 BST for CSC).
  6. HEC nominates candidates to the CSC by December 2026. Results come by July 2027.

Documents you usually need

  • Passport or national ID card (proof of citizenship)
  • Full transcripts of all higher education qualifications
  • References from at least two people (signed PDF on letterhead)
  • HAT test result (HEC)
