MEXT Japanese Government Scholarship - Undergraduate Students (Embassy Recommendation)

This MEXT scholarship funds a full bachelor's degree at a Japanese university, normally after a preparatory Japanese language year. Pakistani school-leavers apply through the Embassy of Japan in Islamabad or the Consulate-General in Karachi.

Who can apply

  • Pakistani nationals who have completed 12 years of school education (Intermediate/A Levels) or will finish before starting.
  • Under 25 years of age (MEXT rule for undergraduate students).

  • Shortlisted candidates sit written tests and an interview.

Note: undergraduate scholars normally spend their first year in Japan on a preparatory Japanese language and subject course before starting the degree. Classes are mostly taught in Japanese, so be ready to learn the language.

How to apply

  1. Download the guideline and application forms from the Embassy page.
  2. Fill in the application and gather attested school documents.
  3. Submit to the Embassy of Japan (Islamabad) or the Consulate-General of Japan (Karachi) by the deadline.
  4. Shortlisted candidates take written exams and an interview.
  5. Successful candidates are recommended to MEXT for final selection and placement.
