Canada Graduate Research Scholarship - Doctoral (CGRS D), successor to the Vanier CGS

Foreign citizens, including Pakistanis, can apply, but international applicants must already be registered in a doctoral programme at an eligible Canadian institution by the application deadline.

• No more than 36 months of full-time study completed in the doctoral programme by 31 December of the application year.
• The programme must be mainly research-based (thesis, dissertation or similar).
• You cannot already hold a doctoral award from CIHR, NSERC or SSHRC (including a Vanier).
• You may apply to only one CRTAS programme per year and a maximum of three times to CGRS D.
• Up to 15% of awards are for international applicants; international holders cannot take the award abroad.

1. Get admitted and registered in a PhD at a Canadian university.
2. Choose the agency (CIHR, NSERC or SSHRC) that best matches your research.
3. If your university has a quota, apply through it by its internal deadline (often much earlier); otherwise apply directly to the agency.
4. Ask referees to submit letters through the agency's online system.
5. Direct applications close at 8:00 pm ET on 17 October.
