Questions
How is the monthly installment worked out?
Banks use the standard reducing-balance formula: EMI = P × r × (1 + r)^n ÷ ((1 + r)^n − 1), where P is the loan amount, r the monthly markup rate and n the number of months. This calculator uses the same formula.
What markup rate do banks charge?
Most car and home loans are priced at KIBOR plus the bank's spread, and the rate resets with KIBOR (usually every year). Ask the bank for its current rate, any insurance and processing fees, and whether the rate is fixed or floating.
How much down payment do I need for a car loan?
State Bank rules set a minimum down payment for car loans; the exact limit and the maximum loan and tenure are shown under the calculator. Banks may ask for more.
Is there an Islamic option?
Islamic banks offer car ijarah and home musharakah (diminishing musharakah), where you pay rent plus a share of the asset instead of interest. The monthly amount is usually close to a conventional loan at the same rate.
