Questions

How is the electricity bill calculated in Pakistan?

Units used are multiplied by the rate of your slab, a fixed charge per kW of sanctioned load is added, then the debt service surcharge (Rs 3.23 per unit), any fuel or quarterly adjustment, and 18% GST. Non-filers with a bill of Rs 25,000 or more also pay 7.5% income tax.

What is the per unit price of electricity in Pakistan?

For ordinary (non-protected) homes the rate is Rs 22.44 per unit up to 100 units, rising to Rs 47.20 above 700 units, before taxes and surcharges. Protected homes pay Rs 10.54 and Rs 13.01 per unit.

Who is a protected consumer?

A home whose bill stayed at or under 200 units every month for the last 6 months. Protected consumers pay lower rates and get the benefit of the previous slab. Going over 200 units in any month ends protected status.

Why does 201 units cost so much more than 200?

Non-protected bills are charged at the rate of the slab your total falls in, for all units. At 201 units every unit moves to the Rs 33.10 rate, so with a 2 kW load the estimate jumps from about Rs 8,293 to Rs 9,443.

Do these rates apply to K-Electric?

Yes. S.R.O. 279(I)/2026 sets the same residential rates and fixed charges for K-Electric and all government distribution companies (LESCO, IESCO, MEPCO, FESCO, GEPCO, PESCO, HESCO, SEPCO, QESCO, HAZECO and TESCO).
