Muse is a personal AI agent made by Meta, launched in September 2026 at muse.ai. Unlike a normal chatbot that only answers questions, Muse takes a task or a long-term goal and works on it for you: it reads and sorts email, puts dates on your calendar, researches and compares products, fills in forms, plans trips and builds simple trackers, and keeps working in the background after you close the app.
Each user gets a private computer in the cloud (Meta calls it Muse Secure VM) with a full browser, files and a terminal. Muse uses it to visit websites, write small programs when it needs a tool that does not exist, and produce documents, PDFs and dashboards. You can watch what it is doing and step in at any time.

How you use it
You talk to Muse like you message a friend: in the Muse app on your phone or Mac, or directly in WhatsApp. There is one long conversation with memory, plus side chats for separate projects. The Goals tab shows everything Muse is tracking for you and its plan, and an Ideas tab suggests what it could do next. You can also give your Muse its own name and avatar.
Safety and privacy
- Muse asks for your approval before hard-to-undo actions such as sending an email or making a purchase, and you can make it more or less cautious.
- Tap the avatar to see a full activity log and the permissions you have given.
- Saved passwords go to a secure store that Muse itself cannot see, and online purchases use a one-time card number so your real card stays hidden.
- You choose which apps (email, calendar, Instagram) it can see and what it may do with them.
Even so, an agent with access to your inbox is a big step. Start with low-risk tasks, keep approvals on, and read its work before you approve it.

Muse is free to start. Meta's terms say it may offer a paid subscription, sell extra AI usage, or end free access at any time, so check the app for current limits.

Who should try it
Muse suits people who juggle a lot of email, appointments and planning: freelancers, small business owners, parents and students applying abroad (it can watch for deadlines and keep a checklist). If you only need quick answers or writing help, a regular chatbot such as ChatGPT or Gemini is simpler. You must be 18 or older to use Muse.
